It has been 20 years since we opened our first store on Prytania Street in Uptown New Orleans! It seems like it has been both a lot longer than that, and like just yesterday that we opened our doors. It has been our honor and privilege to provide our expertise to the New Orleans community and local restaurants, and we are grateful every day for the support of our customers and vendors.Â
We have definitely had some challenges operating a cheese shop, restaurant and wholesale business in New Orleans - multiple hurricanes, looooong power outages, refrigeration meltdowns, the pandemic (which forced so many pivots) and one insane snowstorm. And then all the wonderful moments - 19 years of Mardi Gras parades passing right down the street, community celebrations, late nights at the Kingpin, countless weddings, festivals, six St. James cheese babies, three shops, cheesemonger competitions, travel to visit our beloved cheese makers, and so many amazing team members who have gone on to other careers across the world, and still keep on visiting us.Â
We are so excited to celebrate with everyone, and we have planned a day of cheese related fun!

A scrappy team of eccentric American cheesemongers defies tradition to take on the world's top cheese masters at the Mondial du Fromage (the Olympics of cheese), battling cultural clashes, personal struggles, and melting cheese in pursuit of respect, redemption, and a historic victory. The film also features the Cheesemonger Invitational that takes place each year in New York, that many St. James team members have competed in, and even won.Â
